For as long as I can remember, music has played a pivotal role in my upbringing. Even as a toddler, I can piece together small spurts of instances where I was listening to early G-Unit and T.I., forming my adoration of hip-hop. Was I probably too young to be listening to Young Buck rapping about shooting somebody in the face? Definitely. Even if it was inappropriate for a developing child to listen to 50 Cent say how many men wished death upon him, I loved it and I absorbed every precious second I heard it. The year 2005 is where I really started forming concrete memories of where I was and how I felt about these songs. I was a 5 year old taking in as much 106 & Park as I could outside of my daily routine of SpongeBob Squarepants consumption. The fact that it’s been 15 years since that formative year still boggles my mind, how time could pass by so quickly. Nevertheless, the year 2005 remains important to me because of how much amazing music came into my life and helped mold me into the man I am today. In appreciation, I wanted to revisit the numerous classics from that year and discuss where I was at the time, how I felt about it, and how it still holds up for me today. To avoid going overboard and releasing one massive article (my old first draft was like 10–11 pages), I wanted to split it up into 3 parts.
