Chopped & Screwed Music & My Quarantine Soundtrack
Yes, I’m sure you’ve probably read a dozen of these already because we’re all stuck inside suffering from the Rona’s wrath with nothing to do. Regardless, I’ve wanted an excuse to discuss the best music I’ve found most useful in these long, stressful days trapped in our houses. For the most part, this is going to be a LOT of downer/slower music because there’s almost absolutely nothing to be happy about while stuck in this gloomy predicament. Before I dive into a wide variety of albums and songs, I wanted to dive into one of the sub-genres prominent in my playlists recently.
Houston Hip-Hop/Chopped & Screwed Music: Living in Houston, Texas has really unraveled a newfound appreciation for the hip-hop scene here. There was always a small sense of admiration for the popular music from Mike Jones and Paul Wall in the 2000s and Geto Boys in the ’90s. There’s always been great music from here but my knowledge and love wasn’t as expansive as the Atlanta scene. What I’ve really gotten the most from digesting some of the culture down here is a deeper appreciation for the beauty in chopped & screwed music.
