My Mental Health Through Music

Music is by far the most magical art form in the universe. Something as simple as a set of chords could string tears out of my eyes. I think hip-hop and R&B really reach those heights of unpacking trauma, unpacked feelings, and our deepest emotions better than any genre. Whether it’s from pure instrumentation, beat making, heart wrenching lyrics, or a combination of all three, the role music has played in keeping me alive is indescribable. It’s been a number of artists, albums, and songs that make me the man I am. Going through a major depressive bout, loaded with anxiety and fear, music is keeping me alive. Without it, what am I here for? As a result of writing through it all, I wanted to discuss some music that has helped me stay alive, to be the person I am today. I’ll save a massive piece on how mental health and music interact with one another for a different day. I think it’s important for me to talk about the album that really kept me going everyday.
