Thank You, Isaiah Rashad
I have this habit of trying to determine when an artist will drop a new body of work. Some artists have a higher output, releasing every year, sometimes more than once. Some spread their releases out in 2–3 year intervals like Kendrick Lamar or Danny Brown. In the supply & demand music market, taking an extended amount of time away from releasing music is frowned upon, particularly from a fan’s perspective. With that said, It’s been 1,239 days since Isaiah Rashad’s “The Sun’s Tirade” was released. Nearly four years since his critically adored full length album, the Chattanooga native’s silence has drove fans absolutely insane. For a while, I was in the same boat as the rest of his diehards. From a selfish standpoint, I’m always going to want whatever new product my favorite rapper has in the vaults. As someone who treasures his music and his lyrics so dearly, I desperately long for new music to soundtrack my life. Watching his loyal audience harass Rashad for a new album is where I began to distance myself from being a self-centered fan and one that’s more patient and appreciative. I think rather than hound my favorite rapper for more, it’s vital to show graciousness for Isaiah Rashad on indirectly helping me as much as he has throughout my daily life. To truly capture my appreciation, it’s key to observe the genesis of his career.
