The Good & The Ugly: 2009
This was the year I had in mind when I first decided to put this series together. The bad stuff on this list gets very painful and the good barely makes up for it. 2009 was a tough year on the charts and, despite the societal high from Barack Obama’s election as president, the music still struggled at its worst. This is by no means the worst year on the list, there are still a few brutal installments that take the cake. Before I get into the list proper, here are some honorable mentions: Lady Gaga- “Just Dance”/”Paparazzi”, Black Eyed Peas- “I Gotta Feeling”, Beyoncé- “Single Ladies”, Keri Hilson- “Knock You Down”, Jamie Foxx- “Blame It”, Jay Sean- “Down”, Miley Cyrus- “Party In The USA”, Ne-Yo- “Miss Independent”, John Legend- “Green Light”, Pitbull- “I Know You Want Me”/”Hotel Service”, and Kid Cudi- “Day N Nite”. Without further ado, I want to talk about an artist I knew was destined to be a superstar.
Best: Drake- “Best I Ever Had”: As a kid, I used to do this really nerdy thing with music where I’d try to predict if certain artists I heard on 106 & Park would be a star or not. Who could be the next Young Jeezy, T.I., 50 Cent, Kanye…
