The Good & The Ugly: 2012

This year was SOOOOOO good. 2012 was loaded with these strange new appearances and unlikely chart toppers that made for brilliant pop songs. Rap was finally starting to find its footing after a rough start to the decade. The real point of note is what hit the top 3 on the charts. All of them were seemingly random indie tracks with no track record as evidence on why they ended up at the top of the charts. There was something so fascinating about the chaos of it all, these new talents appearing out of thin air to claim dominance over what pop music would sound like. Sure, there was still some excruciatingly bad stuff and we’ll get to that. Even with those inept failures, the good stuff was truly phenomenal in so many ways.

Before I dive deep into my favorites and least favorites, here are some honorable mentions: Carly Rae Jepsen- “Call Me Maybe”, Ellie Goulding- “Lights”, Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa- “Young, Wild, & Free”, 2 Chainz- “No Lie”, Gavin Degraw- “Not Over You”, B.o.B.- “So Good”, Kirko Bangz- “Drank In My Cup”, The Wanted- “Glad You Came”, Jay-Z & Kanye West- “N*****s in Paris”, Calvin Harris & Ne-Yo- “Let’s Go”, The Lumineers- “Ho Hey”, and T-Pain- “5 O’Clock”. That’s so much more than 2011 was, geez that was a bad one. First, I wanted to dive into one of the best posse cuts of all time.
