What’s a Perfect Song?
I remember being 4–5 years old when I first listened “Beg for Mercy” by G-Unit. Strange for a toddler to be consuming, I know. Nevertheless, I remember in particular loving “Wanna Get to Know You” featuring Joe singing one of my favorite hooks ever. Out of all the records on “Beg For Mercy”, I recall always wanting to replay that song in particular, surely scratching up the CD with the amount of times I ran that song back over and over again.“Wanna Get to Know You” still retains its status as perfect and is in the pantheon of my personal favorite songs ever. With more time passing, growing from a boy to a man, I’ve only discovered more and more records that are simply to die for. I still don’t know what makes for a perfect song, despite feeling that there are a lot of records that are flawless. Is there a technical aspect to it? Is there a song that is objectively perfect? What part does nostalgia play? How does a song achieve perfection?
There are numerous instances where there are songs that just seem designed from God himself. Many have pointed towards “Bohemian Rhapsody” being the Magnum Opus of the entirety of music. Personally? I’m just not spinning Queen like that. Perhaps it’s an age difference thing but I don’t know a lot of people in my personal life that are just like, “Yo, throw on that Bohemian Rhapsody.” or “I’m trying to vibe to some Queen right now.” From a technical aspect, however, it’s nothing you could really improve about that song.
